Artists Resale Rights
From February 14th 2006 auctioneers are required to collect a Royalty payment for all works or art that are being sold on behalf of a living artist. It entitles an artist to a resale royalty each time their art work is sold by an Auction House, gallery or Dealer. The payment for a hammer price more than the UK equivalent of €1,000 (the sterling equivalent will alter in line with the exchange rate on the day of sale).
The royalty charge will be added to the purchase invoice and must be paid in full before the item can be removed. All royalties are paid to the appropriate collecting agency by the auctioneers, and no handling or administration charges will be applied by the auctioneers.
The royalty charges are 4% of the hammer price from €1,000 - €50,000, a sliding rate will apply above €50,000. For a complete list of the royalty charges visit www.dacs.co.uk, there is no VAT on the royalty charge.
